Workbook Scrutiny

  • Thorough Workbook Scrutiny is undertaken by the SLT Half Termly during the last week of the Half Term.
  • The Governing Body Monitoring Committee attend these sessions throughout the year in order to develop their understanding on the progress of the SIP Targets throughout the school, in order to challenge more effectively.
  • The school uses its own Workbook Scrutiny Matrix to judge provision & standards and to provide feedback.
  • The LPS Matrix focuses on 8 areas of Teaching and Learning along with the focus on the School Improvement Targets.
  • Staff are provided with a booklet of the 8 areas of WBS focus and what constitutes Excellent to Unsatisfactory in each area.
  • During the ADDs sessions the SLT will feedback on whole school or phase successes, along with areas for improvement.
  • Individual Feedback Forms focus on the areas of success and what is required to improve by the following Workbook Scrutiny.
  • This strategy provides very similar opportunities and benefits to the Internal Standardisation strategy, but with great detail, focus, scrutiny and support mechanisms for individual staff.
  • This approach also enables greater clarity of ‘live’ performance in provision and standards across the whole school.
    • Where it is successful it can be celebrated and shared with others with greater enthusiasm and clarity as it is current practice.
    • Where it is not successful support can be given to improve practice before it becomes embedded.
  • The image below shows the LPS WBS Matrix and the Individual Feedback Form provided to all staff on the first ADDs session back after a school holiday.
