Thorough Workbook Scrutiny is undertaken by the SLT termly.
The Governing Body Monitoring Committee attend these sessions throughout the year in order to develop their understanding on the progress of the SIP Targets throughout the school, in order to challenge more effectively.
The school uses its own Workbook Scrutiny Matrix which focuses on 8 areas of Teaching and Learning along with the focus on the school policy and agreed effective practice (See image below)
This matrix is referred to in the LPS Teaching and Learning Booklet, which in turn refers to the the Welsh Government Professional Teaching Standards document: https://hwb.gov.wales/professional-development/professional-standards
Staff are provided with a booklet of the 8 areas of WBS focus and what has been agreed to constitute 'Sustaining Highly Effective Practice' at LPS.
Each strand has 4 descriptors which forms a rubric, designed to provide a support structure for discussions and deciding next steps.
During ADDs sessions the SLT will feedback on whole school or phase successes, along with areas for improvement.
Individual Feedback Forms focus on the areas of success and agreed next steps by the following Workbook Scrutiny.
This strategy provides very similar opportunities and benefits to the SUP Process (Shared Understanding of Progression), with great detail, focus and support mechanisms for individual staff, phases and the whole school.
This approach also enables greater clarity of ‘live’ performance in provision and standards across the whole school.
Where it is successful it can be celebrated and shared with others with greater enthusiasm and clarity as it is current practice.
Where it is not successful, support can be given to improve practice before it becomes embedded.
The image below shows the LPS WBS Matrix and the Individual Feedback Form provided to all staff on the following ADDs sessions.
