About Us

Llangyfelach Primary School Wraparound Service provides a Full Day Care for families in the local area and wider. We are CIW registered and can provide families with childcare from 7:30am to 5:30pm every day. We currently take up to 50 children from the day after their third birthday and up to the age of 12 years.

We are located just off the M4 Junction 47 roundabout, taking the Swansea Road exit and turning left onto Pengors Road, making access to the service extremely easy and convenient for all commuters.

The Wraparound Care Team Leader (Miss Jessica Williams) will take responsibility for the children’s activity programme, health and safety, administration duties, staffing and their professional development.

Operational Hours:

  • Breakfast Club     7:30am – 8:45am

  • Day Care (3-5)    8:30am – 5:30pm

  • Evening Club       3:00pm – 5:30pm

Staff:

All staff are recruited, employed within and work to or exceed, regulatory requirements at all times. We welcome students on placement, volunteers and visitors who enrich the experiences of children. Policies and procedures that ensure children’s safety and wellbeing are paramount and are always followed.

Facilities Available:

We have our own dedicated Wraparound room for the nursery aged children during school hours and use of a large classroom and the main hall before and after school. We also make use of the outdoor space before during and after school.

  • Breakfast and After School Club: Toilet Facilities, washing basins, access to school kitchen.

  • Day Care Service: Toilet Facilities, washing basins, kitchen and food preparation areas.

  • Outdoor Facilities: All areas have access to outdoor provision – school yard, games area, climbing trail, climbing wall, interactive learning area.

Services:

Nutrition:

  • Day Care Children require a packed lunch if they are attending a lunch session.  They will also need to bring an additional healthy snack to eat during the Wraparound session.

  • Children attending the After School Service can be provided with a light afternoon meal at 4:30pm, which will need to be ordered when booking. There will be an additional cost for this.

  • Children’s individual needs and preferences are noted and recorded as they register to join the provision.

Settling in Service (Day Care):

Our settling in service enables parents to support their child if they feel that a full day is a big step to make.  There are two options:

  • Option 1 – Book reduced hours initially and build up over time.

  • Option 2 – Stay with your child for a short time frame during the first few days to ease the transition to new arrangements.

Additional Learning Needs (ALN):

We have highly trained staff to deal with any additional learning needs and support required. LPS ALN Leader (Carly Gaffney-Jones) works closely with our ALN Leader for Wraparound (Jessica Williams) to liaise and support educational planning throughout the service, who is always available to discuss needs and adaptations for enhancing provision for all.

Activities:

We offer a wide range of activities that are planned alongside the children to suit children’s age, stage and individual needs and meet our aims and objectives and reflect Welsh Government current strategy. Quality of Care and Reviews:

Llangyfelach Primary Wraparound is committed to making improvements to the quality of care we provide. We do this by:

  • Undertaking an annual review of our operational practice and management systems.

  • Involving staff, parents/carers and children in the review as appropriate.

  • Reporting on the outcomes of the review.

  • Sharing the report of the outcomes with those who contributed to the review.

  • Developing action plans from the reports that are monitored for timely implementation.

  • Undertaking a quality assurance.

  • Applying a reflective approach to all our work and including what we learn in our staff team meetings, which in turn contributes to the overall review of care.

Security:

We have a large yard, suitable for the range of ages attending. This is securely fenced and gated and the children are supervised at all times. We are situated on a quiet estate in the heart of Llangyfelach. The building is only entered through a secure access door entry.

Parental Involvement:

We believe that parents/carers are the prime carers and educators of their children and as such should be involved in all aspects of the provision. We welcome parents/carers who would like to become involved in:

  • Assisting with the management of the provision

  • Fundraising

  • Attending relevant training courses and workshops that we may offer.

The lasting benefit of parental involvement in a child's development and pre-school education is now clearly supported by academic research, as well as providing a lot of pleasure for parents/carers and their children.

Training:

Llangyfelach Primary Wraparound is a member of Early Years Wales (EYW). This ensures that we are kept up-to-date with current developments and initiatives in the field of childcare and education. We receive Small Talk magazine, which offers practical advice and up-to-date information, and we are happy to share this with parents/carers. The provision also has access to other publications from EYW.

We work with the support of EYW to invest in our staff’s commitment to their continuous professional development through reliably endorsed courses, events and training pathways, and parents/carers are kept informed about these.
