Autumn Term

Humanities in LPS - Autumn Term Monitoring.

During Review Week the AoLe and Eco Warrior PVG carried out various monitoring activities and identified the following strengths related to our action plan –

  • The teaching and learning of Humanities at LPS continues to be rich and termly topics continue to be cross-curricular with a range of key skills being taught across all areas. Examples of this can be seen in Year 5 where the children have linked written multiplication methods to Welsh Settlers. Another lovely example can be seen in Year 2 where they have been solving mathematical problems which have been linked to the topic of The History of Mumbles train.
  • After looking at the feedback from pupil questionnaires and from looking at evidence of children’s work it is clear that all children feel that they are having opportunities to develop their knowledge and awareness of their local area and Wales through their topics and the opportunities they have been provided with by their teachers. . Evidence of children linking their learning to Wales can be found in Year 1 where they have learnt about real life Welsh Superheroes.
  • From listening to learners it is evident that most learners have an understanding of their rights and what they are. Most children feel that their knowledge and understanding of the Rights of the Child have been raised as a result of assemblies, displays and discussions in class.

Our next steps are –

  • The AoLe Leader and PVG will work together to look at the new curriculum plans and incorporate opportunities to increase children's knowledge and understanding of cultural diversity.
  • To continue to work collaboratively with the Healthy Happy Helpers towards the Silver Rights Respecting School Award.
  • To continue progress with our Eco Schools campaign and work towards our second green flag award.
