Welcome Letter

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Year 3! I hope that you all had a fabulous summer! Shame the sun didn’t show up until this week! I am really looking forward to teaching your children this year! They are all settling in to the new routines and we’ve had lots of lovely smiles this week! A superb start!

Topic

Our class topic for this half term is ‘Fantasia.’ This project has a science and geography focus and we will be learning about endangered animals, the rainforests, habitats, food chains and our wonderful Welsh wildlife! We will be going on a class trip to Plantasia soon, look out for more information shortly.

Reading

The children will be given two stage reading books and they will be allocated reading days. They need to bring their reading books and reading records into school on their reading day. Please read with your children as much as possible and you are welcome to make comments in their reading records. Just a reminder, children do not need to wait until their reading day to change their books. They just need to remember to change them with me, so I can update their reading record. Thank you.

Homework

We have made some minor changes to our homework systems this year. All details can be found below. Homework will be issued from 15/09/23. The children will also come home with all password details to access their online platforms next Friday. If you require any assistance, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Weekly Maths and Reading Homework

This will be set every Friday through our online platforms, MyMaths and Reading Eggspress. During reading time, the children will have an opportunity to work on their reading tasks set. If all homework is completed, the children will be rewarded with a session of ‘Eggstratime’.

Spelling

We have adapted our approach to spelling this year. We will be using Vocabulary Ninja! A spelling session will be taught in class on a Friday. A spelling list linked to the lesson will be sent home on a Friday ready for a test the following Friday.

Assessments

There will be weekly spelling, mental maths and times table tests which will take place on a Friday. All homework can be accessed from the Homework section on our Class Page.

PE

This term, the children will have PE on a Wednesday. All PE sessions will be taking place outdoors. Please can you ensure children come to school dressed in their PE kits on Wednesday, thank you. PE days will change throughout the year, due to the nature of the activity taking place. I will inform you of day changes as and when they happen.

Equipment

The children will not be required to bring any pencils cases, calculators or writing equipment into school this year. It is all provided for them! However, I completely understand that children might want to bring in some of their own stationery, If they do so, please ensure pencil cases are of a suitable size.

Healthy Snack

The children are encouraged to bring a healthy snack to school every day to enjoy at break time.

Pupil Information

In order to maintain up to date records, please could you inform me of any allergies, medication, or dietary requirements the children may have. Thank you.

Many thanks for your cooperation! If you have any questions or queries about anything, please don’t hesitate to give me a call on the school phone number. I am looking forward to a fabulous year with your children!

Miss Evans.
