Summer Term

During our review activities this year, members of the Pupil Voice Group and the AoLe Leader undertook Listening to Learners activities and a webpage look.

The following strengths related to our Action Plan were identified;

  • The return of Turn Your Frown Upside Down has been a great success and has provided pupils with the support they need for their emotional and social development. Nearly all children who have attended the drop in have stated that they have felt more confident when articulating their emotions and using their own strategies on how to deal with challenging situations. This has been recognised during our Summer Term Estyn Inspection, where inspectors stated, "Turn Your Frown Upside Down Club’ has a positive impact on well-being and is a firm favourite of many pupils across the school.  Pupils highlight this as a particular strength of the school and a good example of the school’s commitment to their well-being”

  • Good Thymes Gardening has provided a number of learners with wellbeing sessions through gardening. This has given our learners a sense of responsibility from caring for the plants, and a real sense of achievement. This has been recognised during our Summer Term Estyn Inspection, where inspectors stated, "The physical and social development of pupils is well supported through projects such as the ‘Good Thymes Gardening Project’, where pupils and community groups work together to improve the outdoor environment".

  • An Emotional and Wellbeing steering committee was formed using the national framework, in order to improve provision for all learners, staff and our wider community. This group is a vital part of the whole school approach to emotional and mental wellbeing. The steering committee had the opportunity to self assess wellbeing at LPS. Moving forward, this group will make valuable contributions to the school improvement priorities.

Our next steps are

  • The Happy Healthy Helpers and the AoLE Leader will continue to review the new LPS Curriculum Projects to ensure progression and coverage of the Health and Wellbeing Statements of what matter. To ensure that there are opportunities for self- determined learning and to ensure that the Rights of the Child are incorporated across both phases.

  • To meet with the Emotional Wellbeing steering committee in the Autumn Term to discuss progress towards action plan.

  • To continue to work collaboratively with the Eco Warriors towards the Silver Rights Respecting School Award.

Physical Education

During our review activities this year, members of the Pupil Voice Group and the AoLe Leader undertook Listening to Learners activities and a webpage look.

The following strengths related to our Action Plan were identified:

  • The pupil voice group the Fitness Fanatics have begun to develop in collaboration with the LPS Criw Iaith fitness cards for pupils to use during break times. This is very beneficial to the pupils as it enables them to dictate what physical activities they would like to undertake as well as the increased exercise pupils will have once the fitness cards are in place.

  • All teaching staff have received training for the new orienteering scheme that will begin to be implemented at the start of the next school year.

  • There has been continued success with local community links as our partnership with Swansea A.F.C and Mr Humphries which have provided pupils with rich and varied learning experiences.

  • KS2 pupils have had or will have the opportunity to attend swimming sessions which has provided the pupils with experience of an invaluable life skill.

  • Nearly all pupils have engaged well in and enjoyed their physical education sessions and demonstrated a good understanding of how to be successful in their learning.

  • Nearly all pupils questioned explained how they have experienced a wide range of sports and activities this year. For instance, swimming, football and rugby.

  • The AoLE Leader has developed a continuum of PE skills for each year group to ensure clear progression of skills and to incorporate the What Matter Statements.

Our next steps are:

  • To embed orienteering into the schools PE scheme to provide extra coverage of skills for all pupils.

  • To implement the new continuum of PE skills for each year group which will ensure clear progression of skills and incorporates the What Matter Statements.

  • The Fitness Fanatics and AoLE Leader to continue to work together to review new projects throughout the school to ensure progression and coverage of the Health and Wellbeing What Matters Statements.

  • To monitor the new PE continuum and continue to review its implementation during review weeks.
