Copperopolis

As part of the LPS Matrix approach, we discussed our prior knowledge, discussed what we would like to learn about, created questions to explore and identified skills we would need to use throughout the topic.

 

Here are the questions we created: 

 

  1. Why did Swansea become known as Copperopolis and when did this happen?

  2. How and why did the copper industry begin in Swansea?

  3. Who discovered copper and how did it become so important in the Victorina era?

  4. Who worked in the copper industry? What was it like?

  5. Could Copperopolis be important to the future of Swansea?

  6. How and why did ‘Copperopolis’ end?

  7. How did coal become so important?

  8. What was it like to live and work in Victorian times?

  9. What was it like to be a child in Victorian times?

  10. What was it like in a Victorian school?

  11. What were the punishments in a Victorian school and why were they so strict?

  12. Why were children not allowed to speak Welsh?

  13. What was medicine like in Victorian times?

  14. Who was Brunel?

  15. Why did Welsh people move to Argentina? Are they still there?
