Transition

Change is a normal part of life and can provide opportunities for children to develop their resilience. Whether a child is starting primary school, changing schools, changing class, moving from Foundation Phase to Key Stage 2 or Primary to Comprehensive school, this transition period needs to be carefully supported.

During any transition period, LPS offers children the opportunity to talk about their concerns and are supported to cope with any readjustments.

Intramural Transition

All children from Nursery to Year 5 are given the opportunity to visit their next teacher and classroom. They spend a full session in their new classroom getting to know their next teacher. They will discuss a range of topics regarding their transition to the next year group, these will include building relationships though fun games and activities, discussing learning projects, day-to-day organisation and opportunities for the children to ask questions.

Transition to Secondary School

Year 6 children participate in a range of activities to help them prepare for their transition to Comprehensive school. These include transition days spent at the Comprehensive school, class visits from older pupils and staff and work on a transition project which begins at LPS and is continued and Pontarddulais Comprehensive. Additionally, the Year 6 Teacher and ALNCo meet with staff from each Comprehensive School to pass on a range of information and discuss the specific needs of each pupil.

We have created the web page below to help and support all pupils with a smooth transition to their respective Comprehensive school.
