Expressive Arts in LPS
During this academic year, the PVG and AoLE Leader monitored Expressive Arts in LPS by listening to learners, speaking to staff and looking at pupil’s work.
We identified the following strengths related to our Action Plan:
The teaching and learning of art throughout the school continues to be very strong. All children in LPS are developing a wide variety of skills and knowledge whilst expressing their creativity. Many of the classes have expanded their art skills, in particular, drawing skills by creating images linked to topics such as The Tudors, Egypt, The Celts and Travel Agents in KS2, and Space and Pirates in FP.
It is evident that children are developing literacy skills through art. They are reflecting and self-evaluating their work whilst broadening their writing and oracy skills. KS2 have used hieroglyphics to write words and sentences. Children are furthering numeracy skills through art. In FP, they are exploring shape, line and pattern. Finally, the application and development of ICT skills through art is very good throughout the school. Classes in KS2 are developing creative skills using ICT programmes and iPad apps like Art Rage.
The teaching and learning of music is developing throughout the school. Children are developing literacy skills through music by the means of composition and appraisals. They are developing numeracy skills through music by exploring rhythym and pattern, beats and counting. Finally, children are developing ICT skills through music using apps, and through methods of recording performances. Children are demonstrating creativity by exploring with untuned percussion instruments, ukuleles and guitars.
Our next steps are:
The Creative Crew and AoLE Leader working together to review new projects throughout the school to ensure progression and coverage of the Expressive Arts What Matters Statements.
Continue to develop and further enhance drama within LPS.
Enhance the children’s awareness, knowledge and understanding of historical and present day composers, artists and actors, from Swansea, Wales and the wider world.
