Play, Learn and Grow Together

Autumn Term

Wellbeing:

During review week, the AoLE Leader and PVG carried out monitoring activities and we identified the following strengths related to our Action Plan:

  • The Happy Healthy Helpers and the AoLE Leader discussed the Statements of what matter and matched these statements to areas of learning or systems carried out at LPS. For example, the use of the PLJ and LPS Matrix has enabled learners to develop their critical-thinking skills, allowing them to have a deeper understanding of their rights and how the four core purposes are at the heart of their learning. This links to the Statement of what matter- Our decision-making impacts on the quality of our lives and the lives of others.
  • The Happy Healthy Helpers have successfully brought back Turn Your Frown Upside Down which has been a great success with new faces attending each week. This has allowed the PVG to develop their leadership skills by offering their knowledge and expertise of emotion coaching. It has also enabled learners to develop strategies to deal with different emotions.
  • Both the Happy Healthy Helpers and Eco Warriors have gathered evidence for the Silver Rights Respecting School Award. Both PVGs have worked collaboratively to do this, and will be starting the process of applying for the award next term. This has allowed the learners to build relationships with others, demonstrating problem solving and leadership skills.
  • The Happy Healthy Helpers enjoyed planning wellbeing activities for Children in Need. All were a success and allowed learners to share their thoughts and ideas on supporting one another and those in the community.

    Our next steps are
  • The Happy Healthy Helpers and the AoLE Leader will continue to review the new LPS Curriculum Projects to ensure progression and coverage of the Health and Wellbeing Statements of what matter. To ensure that there are opportunities for self- determined learning and to ensure that the Rights of the Child are incorporated across both phases.
  • To work collaboratively with Criw Iaith and the Fitness Fanatics to develop the LPS Fitness Challenge cards.
  • To continue to work collaboratively with the Eco Warriors towards the Silver Rights Respecting School Award.

Physical Education

During this review week, the AoLE Leader monitored Physical Education at LPS by listening to learners and speaking to staff.

The AoLE Leader identified the following strengths in Physical Education at LPS:

  • There has been continued success with local community links as our partnership with Swansea A.F.C and Mr Humphries have provided pupils with rich learning experiences.
  • Nearly all pupils have engaged well in and enjoyed their physical education sessions and demonstrated a good understanding of how to be successful in their learning.
  • Pupils have been chosen to represent their class and the school in a new PVG group called the Fitness Fanatics. These pupils will work closely with the AoLE Leader to review new projects throughout the school to ensure progression and coverage of the Health and Wellbeing What Matters Statements.
  • Nearly all pupils questioned explained how they have experienced a wide range of sports and activities this year. For instance, swimming, football and rugby.
  • The AoLE Leader is continuing to develop a continuum of PE skills for each year group to ensure clear progression of skills and to incorporate the What Matter Statements.

Our next steps are:

  • To continue to develop and implement a continuum of PE skills for each year group to ensure clear progression of skills and to incorporate the What Matter Statements.
  • The Fitness Fanatics and AoLE Leader to continue to work together to review new projects throughout the school to ensure progression and coverage of the Health and Wellbeing What Matters Statements.
  • To continue to develop and implement strategies for AFL during PE lessons to aid pupils understanding.
