Here’s how LPS had an excellent year
With the new school year ready to commence, it’s the perfect time to reflect on all of the good things that happened at LPS last academic year.
Back in November of 2018, we achieved the Green Flag award – this is part of the Eco-Schools programme, which encourages learners to lead the change within the school. It’s an internationally recognised award that highlights the good work that schools do towards environmental change. We are incredibly proud of this award and the whole school has put in great effort to get this award. We also want to give a special thank you to the Eco Warrior team, alongside Miss Nicholas and Mr Higgins, for working hard to achieve this.
Our Happy Healthy Helpers also worked hard last year, teaming up with the Eco Warrior team to help us achieve the Unicef Bronze Rights Respecting School Award. This award is all about making sure that children are respected, their talent is nurtured and they’re in an environment where they are able to thrive. We focus on embedding a child’s rights approach in all aspects of our school life. Everyone in LPS has supported this award by becoming familiar with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child.
We also would like to thank all the staff and learners at LPS, as well as Mrs Bate and our Criw Iath, for achieving the Siarter Cymraeg Bronze award! This award is important to help schools make sure that they are developing learner’s Welsh skills to be the best they can be. Our blog on the importance of the Welsh language shows just how big an achievement this is.
Our PTFA went above and beyond last year to raise money and donate amazing resources to the school. Not only have we had classroom resources and stationary, but we’ve also had new benches for the yard, all of the school’s online subscriptions amounting to just over £6,000 paid for, Year 6 Leaver Hoody’s to celebrate their time at LPS, and refurbishment of the toilets with Bright Ideas interior painting using the children’s own artwork to decorate them. The wonderful weather meant our Summer Fete was a great success, and they also held Mother’s and Father’s day stalls, hamper raffles and sold slush to cool us all down! We want to give a big thank you to all of the PTFA committee, as well as a special thank you to Nicola Lewis who arranged matched funding with her workplace.
The 2018-2019 academic year has been a very rewarding year at LPS. We’re incredibly excited to continue working hard this year and can’t wait to see what it brings.
