Play, Learn and Grow Together

Spring

During our LPS Review week, during the Autumn term, members of the Pupil Voice Group (PVG) and the AoLE leader undertook Workbook looks, scrutinised standards and progression of subject area work, as well as Listening to Learners activities, and then fed back to our allocated school governor.

We identified the following strengths:

Within science, there is evidence of deeper understanding and standard of writing throughout each year group, with progression clear and evident throughout the school.

  • In nearly all classes, there is evidence of using the science writing frames to structure enquiries and form a basis for investigation and level of questioning.

  • A variety of knowledge and understanding lessons as a precursor to scientific investigations, enabling the implementation of different types of scientific enquiry across many classes throughout the school (e.g. classifying in Year 2, observation in Year 4 and fair testing in Year 5).

  • A variety of evidencing findings (as suggested in the last review), with some video evidence being used for oracy-based enquiries.

There is a high standard of ICT work in many classes, with a variety of forms of ICT experiences being had in nearly all classes. Examples include:

  • VR headsets to deepen understanding of the function of the digestion system.

  • Coding of own games using a variety of platforms (e.g. Year 6 Bloxel game).

  • Numerous examples of research and presentations at high standards throughout each year group.

  • Online safety session held in all classes throughout the school, to which pupils could speak about in-depth and confidently.

  • Using ICT for purposeful cross curricular activities, for example making graphs using JiT in Year 1 and block graphs in Reception.

In many classes, some good evidence of planning, producing and evaluating design and technology activities.

  • Making kebabs, designing rockets, creating piñatas, coding Morse code Micro:bits. All of which contain elements of planning, producing and evaluating.

Next steps:

  • AoLE leader and iTeam to monitor and review if a balance of science and technology activities have been undertaken across each of the projects, across the year, at the conclusion of the Summer term – to be monitored during Review weeks.

  • AoLE leader and iTeam to suggest further S&T learning experiences, providing pupil voice to help shape the LPS Curriculum – Ongoing target to be monitored during Review weeks.

  • AoLE leader and iTeam to provide more ideas for the now fixed projects, to enhance use of VRs in LPS – monitor progress during Review week.
