Topic
There are a lot of activities this week. You can choose your favourite or do them all. I am looking forward to seeing your lovely photos.
The story, Handa's Surprise, is based in South-West Kenya. With your family, can you find Africa on a map? What animals live in Kenya?
Draw Handa's fruit in a basket. Or you can draw your very own surprise in a basket to give to someone special? Can you label your lovely drawings?
Can you make Handa's fruit, using play dough?
Design your very own African necklace, using a paper plate. You can create different patterns, pretty colours and stick sequins on. There is an example below.
Can you balance something on your head like Handa?
Literacy
With your family, can you use the sequencing story cards to retell the story of Handa Surprise?
Maths Measure and Weighing
Use objects of the same size, to measure how long the different food is. Find something around your home to measure the food. You can us small cars, blocks, sugar cubes or pompoms. If you prefer you can choose different food of your own. Can you count or write how many cubes long your food is? Can you find out which is the longest and shortest?
Weigh and measure the different fruit from the story. Or if you prefer, you can choose your own fruit. Hold the fruit in your hands to find out which is heaviest and lightest. Can you put them in order, lightest to heaviest? Make a label saying heaviest for the first fruit and lightest at the end of the fruit line.
