Summer Term

Writing

  • New LPS Curriculum Projects have been fully embedded across all classes, with many learners demonstrating high standards of written work through their topic and enquiry based learning, equitable to the standard within their standalone literacy work.
  • The new cursive handwriting scheme, Letter Join, is having a positive impact on the presentation of many of our younger learners. Our older learners continue to work towards a cursive style, with many learners focusing on consistency of approach, in order to work towards the style achieved within handwriting sessions.
  • All staff have received relevant training in order to effectively deliver the new presentation and handwriting scheme, policy and approach.
  • Creative writing experiences within many classes demonstrate enriched vocabulary choices and imagery due to stimuli provided.

Reading and Spelling

  • Data analysis demonstrates that on average, 94% of Y2-Y6 pupils are making the expected or above expected progress in reading  within this academic year, demonstrating effective use of phonics and reading support systems across the school.
  • Workbook scrutiny demonstrates that spelling sessions are taking place weekly across the school with nearly all children experiencing a range of activities that are having a positive impact on spelling and high frequency word recognition.
  • Data analysis demonstrates that on average, 95% of Y2-Y6 pupils are making the expected or above expected progress in spelling within this academic year, demonstrating impact of Reading Eggs spelling system across the school.

Language

  • Workbook scrutiny demonstrates that written Welsh continues to be of a high standard in many classes, with pupils drafting and editing their work to improve their vocabulary and sentence structure within the Welsh language.
  • Criw Iaith have worked with other pupils from the cluster to practise and gain ideas on how to implement Welsh playground games, therefore upskilling the Criw Iaith of LPS.
  • Listening to learners demonstrated that many classes are participating with enthusiasm during Welsh playground games which is having a positive impact on raising the profile and enthusiasm of the language.
  • LLC Progression Model and assessment tracker ensures continuity, progression and coverage of the SWM and LNF, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning for all learners.
  • AOLE lead has implemented opportunities for LPS staff to observe lessons carried out by French specialist teacher within their own classes, therefore building confidence and offering opportunities for professional dialogue with language specialists.

Next Steps:

  1. To monitor, review and evaluate impact of LLC progression model and LPS Learning Projects across the school, making amendments where required, ensuring it meets the needs of all learners, our community and Curriculum for Wales.
  2. Improve consistency of implementation of cursive handwriting to all areas of learning, across the school, ensuring all staff are modelling cursive handwriting, therefore complying with the LPS Handwriting Policy.
  3. Improve bilingualism across the school by enhancing the leadership of the Criw Iaith when working towards Siarter Iaith Silver Award (focus on assemblies to ensure a weekly focus on drillio and Patrwm Y Pythefnos, encouraging the use of Welsh in and out of the classroom).
