Swansea Blitz Artwork

Will Evans (1888-1957)

Here are some examples of our work based on the work of local artist Will Evans, painter, designer and printmaker who was born and died in Swansea, South Wales. In 1911, his painting 'Welsh Castle' won first prize at the National Eisteddfod held in Carmarthen. By the 1920's his work was gaining recognition outside of Wales. He became a lecturer in painting at Swansea School of Art and was elected as Associate of the Royal Cambrian Academy of Art in 1936.

Often referred to as one of the 'Sons of Gwalia', Evans is most famous for his paintings of war- ravaged Swansea after the 3-Day Blitz. He died in Mount Pleasant Hospital, Swansea in 1957 aged sixty-nine.
