Play, Learn and Grow Together

Aims

  1. Providing high quality day care that enhances the development, care and education of all children in a safe and stimulating environment, where they learn through play and collaboration between our staff and other children.

  2. Providing high quality play-based learning that builds upon the Development Pathways and prepares children for the Curriculum for Wales approach.

  3. Providing a broad and balanced curriculum that enhances the physical, emotional, social and intellectual development of each child.

  4. Enabling everyone to reach their full potential and develop life-long learning skills.

  5. Providing the best possible training for all staff to ensure they meet the needs of all children within our care.

  6. Supporting the development of bilingualism through the daily use of incidental Welsh in our setting and providing care for children from Welsh speaking families.

  7. Embracing the ethos and principles of Early Years Wales.

  8. Ensuring that we provide the services that go beyond requirements set out in the Welsh Government’s ‘National Minimum Standards, 2023’.

We believe that the key feature of effective development, play and early learning for all young children is the interplay between the quality of adult interactions, the effectiveness of indoor and outdoor environments and the authenticity of experiences offered. The Welsh Government’s ‘A Quality Framework for Early Childhood Play, Learning and Care in Wales, 2023’ describes the enablers which we strive to develop throughout our service.

Enabling Adults who:

  • are warm, attentive and responsive to young children,

  • are skilful, observant and interested in young children and how they develop,

  • use knowledge and understanding of child development to support all children,

  • use knowledge and understanding of how young children learn to plan experiences and environments.

Effective Environments that:

  • provide authentic opportunities for all young children to play, explore and discover,

  • create a sense of belonging, ownership and agency,

  • offer appropriate indoor and outdoor experiences,

  • offer safe spaces to encounter appropriate risk and challenge,

  • provide a range of spaces for young children to explore what they can do, to problem solve and to better understand the world around them.

Engaging Experiences that:

  • build on young children’s natural curiosity to explore,

  • support young children’s early language development,

  • enable young children to develop their physical, social and emotional skills,

  • broaden and deepen young children’s thinking and understanding,

  • support creative thinking, problem solving and imagination,

  • develop cynefin for all young children.
