Play, Learn and Grow Together

Summer

During our LPS Review Week activities this year, the AoLE leader and iTeam Pupil Voice Group undertook 'workbook looks' and spoke with learners from each year group about Science & Technology throughout the school feeding their findings back regarding the progress made against the Science & Technology Action Plan.

We identified the following strengths related to our Action Plan:

Action 1: Continue to review and monitor implementation of new LPS Curriculum Projects to check for coverage, progression and opportunities for self-determined learning.

All classes have produced and undertaken LPS Curriculum Projects with a variety of Science and Technology experiences, enabling pupils to demonstrate their high standards of work within this AoLE.

Through workbook looks and listening to a cross-section learners from each class, the AoLE leader found that there are a wide variety of science and technology experiences for the LPS learner right across the school. These experiences allow learners to demonstrate and improve their comprehension of a wide selection on concepts within science and technology.

Examples of various activities undertaken across the academic year:

Foundation Phase:

KS2

  • Using websites to research topic-based information.
  • Investigating material properties to help rebuild Swansea market.
  • Created videos about the human body.
  • Researched about organs and bodily functions.
  • Animations on the solar system.
  • Investigating forces on rockets and what design makes the 'best' rocket.
  • Creating animations.
  • Using code to print 3D key rings and coding buggies.
  • Investigating the industrial heritage of Wales, Swansea Bay and its impact on our future.

Action 2: Promote, monitor and increase STEM activities in all classes (aside from use of external agency resources) by reviewing its planned use within new LPS Project topics, with a continued focus on the design and technology area of learning.

We have noted that there has been an increase in STEM activities due to the implementation of the projects. With children taking part in activities such as: designing models for beach huts, coding games and making space rockets for investigations.

This area is still an area to monitor and look to enhance with more reflective and focused activities.

Action 3: iTeam to apply for 360° Safe Cymru – Online Safety Award renewal.

With help from the iTeam monitoring and online saferty work undertaken by pupils across the school via the curriculum, we were able to review our online safety provision in LPS. The findings can be found below:

The application for 360° Safe Cymru Online Safety Award renewal was submitted on the 14th June 2024. We await confirmation of the decision.

Next Steps:

Our next steps will be written into the 2024/25 Action Plan.
