Autumn Review

During our review activities, members of the Pupil Voice Group and the AoLe Leader undertook workbook scrutiny and Listening to Learners activities (pupil questionnaire).

We identified the following strengths related to our Action Plan;

  • All classes continue to experience a range of numeracy tasks which demonstrate progression from class to class. This continues to develop mathematical standards across the school. For example, pupils in Year 5 select and use appropriate strategies when planning supplies for a voyage to Patagonia, while pupils in Year 1 collect, record and present data on healthy snacks within the class.
  • All classes make use of the LPS Numeracy Scheme to plan opportunities to develop mental strategies, with Years 2–6 having regular mental maths sessions. For example, Year 1 and Year 2 provide tasks and challenges to encourage use on mental strategies. As a result, many of these pupils (particularly in Year 4-6) talk about using mental strategies within their daily work.
  • The planned collaboration with Criw Iaith to work towards achieving the Tribal Quality Mark has been cancelled as the award is no longer accepting new schools. Alternative options will now be looked at.

Next Steps:

  • Further evaluate numeracy tasks within LPS Projects to ensure they are rich, purposeful and challenging.
  • Share good practice of mental systems to develop opportunities across classes.
  • Look at alternative awards or schemes that will help develop numeracy provision.
