Week Beginning 14th Dec

There are lots of activities this week. You can choose your favourite of do them all. It is up to you. I am looking forward to see your great pictures or videos of this weeks learning. 

Maths

With your family can you place number cards on the table. If you don't have any, can your child trace or write numbers on separate sheets of paper. Look at the power point below and ask your child if they can count the winter pictures and find the right number card to match the total number. 

 

Hide all the gloves you have around your home. Place two trays on the carpet. When you have found them, Can you sort them into size, pattern or colour? 

 

 

Listen to the story, The Mitten and sequence the animals in order.

Can you create different patterns on your mittens?

Find objects around the house to count with

Literacy

Together look at the winter poster and talk about the different pictures. Ask what, how and when questions. Here are some below. Or you can think of some together. What would you like to do winter time?

 

What did the girl make?

What are the two children talking about?

How many children can you count in the sledge?

How are the children feeling?

Why are the children wearing hats and gloves?

Why do you think the children are happy?

 

The sound of the week is g. Write the list of CVC words below. Hide the words around your home and go exploring in the dark, using your torch to find the words. Can the children blend the words found?  Use magnetic letters to copy the word.

Identify the letter g. 

Write different sounds on a sheet of paper, making sure you write the sound g. Use a dabber to dab only on the sound g.

 

Draw something that begins with the sound g and write the beginning sound. Here are some examples below.

Practise tracing over patterns

Topic

Make your own light box

Follow the recipe below and make a shiny and sparkly star biscuit. May be you would like to write your own shopping list of ingredients.

 

Ingredients 

 

Method

  • Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6.
  • Mix the butter in a bowl 
  • Add the sugar and the egg
  • Finally add the flour to make a dough. If the dough feels a bit sticky, add a little more flour and knead it in.
  • Roll the dough
  • Use a star shape cutter to make the shape biscuit
  • Greece a baking tray
  • Place the star biscuits on the baking tray and put in the oven

 

To decorate

  • Ice the biscuits using the pens to make stripes or dots, or colour in the whole biscuit if you like.
  • Mix water and a small amount of food colouring into a small bowl
  • Add icing sugar. Enough to make a paste texture
  • Spread the icing onto the biscuit
  • Sprinkle glitter and  sparkly decorations
