Play, Learn and Grow Together

Autumn Term

During our LPS Review week, during the Autumn term, members of the Pupil Voice Group (PVG) and the AoLE leader undertook Workbook looks and Listening to Learners activities, and then fed back to our allocated school governor.

We identified the following strengths related to our Action Plan:

All classes have produced LPS Curriculum Projects with a number of Science and Technology experiences, which enables pupils to demonstrate high standards of work within the science and technology area of learning. Examples of these standards of work can be found by clicking on the hyperlinks below.

Through work scrutiny with the PVG, as well as listening to learners from each of the classes, we found that pupils across LPS experiences a rich variety of activities across the science and technology area of learning, enabling learners to improve their understanding of the wide spectrum of concepts within science and technology.

For example, in KS2 learners were able to plan scientific enquiries about how they could have improved miner's working conditions with eye patches, developed and reflected on observations the effect coke had on tooth enamel, use branching databases to sort deadly animals and create animations and presentations about World War II events.

In Foundation Phase, learners were able to develop oracy skills using ExplainEverything, made models of ancient monuments and planned and observed changes in matter investigations

Through conversations with learners, we found that many classes have had opportunities for virtual reality (VR) experiences within class sessions. These rich virtual experiences are designed to engage the pupils fully into an area of learning, as well as immerse the learners into experiences which will help improve understanding in a more practical scenario. Nearly all learners who have had experiences of VR within class sessions enjoyed the experiences and said that it 'helped' them with their learning and that they were 'excited to use the headsets'.

Examples of these VR experiences were: looking at the anatomy of the eyeball, London Underground during wartime and looking at ancient monuments.

Next steps:

  • AoLE leader and iTeam to review all LPS Curriculum Projects to check skill progression as well as subject breadth (e.g. Science: Biology, Physics, Chemistry across the school) - Ongoing target.

  • AoLE leader and iTeam to suggest further S&T learning experiences – providing pupil voice to help shape the LPS Curriculum.

  • AoLE leader to distribute questionnaires to teaching staff to help improve engagement and standards of this AoLE.

  • AoLE leader to provide support for teachers to provide topic-based VR experiences to their classes – monitor progress (VR training has been provided by ZH to Teaching Assistants on inset (01/11/21).
