LPSW Play Equipment & Resources

It is the policy of Llangyfelach Primary Wraparound to arrange the premises and use resources and equipment so that the needs of children in our care are met, and they are provided with opportunities to develop their skills and learn through play; and activities that support their natural curiosity and encourage independence in a safe environment.

We do this by:

  • Arranging rooms and spaces to facilitate ease of movement between them for staff and children, (including toileting and kitchen facilities), and help children feel secure and confident.

  • Providing a security system for access and leaving the premises.

  • Decorating/structuring areas to stimulate and calm as appropriate.

  • Obtaining and arranging furniture that is child size where appropriate, enabling children to achieve their own levels of independence.

  • Arranging equipment indoors and outside that is accessible to children who can select their own resources.

  • Offering opportunities to children for free access to outdoor play and experience.

  • Maintaining and implementing an effective written risk assessment of premises and activities.

  • Maintaining and implementing an effective business plan to redecorate, refurbish, replace and renew fixtures and fittings over time.

  • Providing display areas that:

    • Stimulates and promotes the children’s current interests and ideas.

    • Maintain an open dialogue with parents/carers and visitors to our provision.

The equipment and resources:

  • Obtaining equipment and resources that are of good quality and appropriate to the ages and stages of development of children.

  • Ensuring that furniture, equipment and resources conform to BS EN safety standards or relevant Toys (Safety) Regulations where applicable.

  • Providing sufficient equipment and resources to offer a range for children’s full participation meeting their needs as individuals and as part of a group.

  • Involving parents/carers and children in the selection of resources to be obtained.

  • Offering opportunities for each child to develop their physical, social, personal, emotional and intellectual skills at their own pace.

  • Offering opportunities that stimulate natural curiosity and risk taking within a safe environment.

  • Offering a range of opportunities that encourage children to be aspirational, to contribute their view, to develop their potential and grow towards independence.

  • Providing a range of equipment that reflects the local and wider community, in line with Llangyfelach Primary Wraparound’s equality and inclusion policy.

  • Providing a range of equipment and resources that are made from natural materials as well as manmade.

  • Maintaining and implementing an effective written risk assessment of equipment, resources and activities.

  • Maintaining and implementing an effective business plan to replace and renew equipment and resources over time.
