LPSW Development Plan Targets 2021-22

Our robust self-evaluation process, displayed above, have generated the following agreed development targets:

  1. Provide support, training and advice for staff to develop more detailed and structured project plans that considers learner voice and choice, within the afterschool club.

  2. Further develop the LPSW staff review system, providing training and support using the SSTEW Scale framework.

  3. Review assessment procedures, in light of the Foundation Phase Framework moving towards the New Curriculum for Wales arrangements.

  4. Further improve outdoor learning experiences, utilising newly developed zones and implementing structured plans/timetables.

Autumn Term Progress:

During review week using our monitoring activities, we observed a number of things that were positive and going well for the service. However, we also noticed certain things that need adjusting in order to further develop and improve the service.

With regards to the first developmental plan target, when following the timetable that is set for the clubs each night the majority of the children are enjoying as that particular club is engaging them and keeping them entertained. This is something that can be seen in pictures on the website of the children enjoying and having fun whilst attending the club. A step forward in order to further improve in line with the first target would be creating a separate rota of activities on a rotation basis planned by both the staff and children as something for those children who do not want to join in with the particular club on that night to participate in. These activities included on the planned rota would also need to stimulating, exciting and engaging for them in order to keep them entertained.

Linking in with the second development plan target. We are continuing to use the SSTEW Scale Framework as a tool to help further develop the staff professionally. This tool has proved beneficial as using the scale, staff members have been able to work out and mark off exactly where they are working at and can visualise and know what they need to be doing in order to progress to the next judgement. Feedback from staff members on this has been positive with some staff stating that “it’s useful to help me to know what to do next in order to progress with each strand”. Going forward with regards to this target would be to implement the staff reflection document that was created and use the SSTEW Scale Framework with the remaining members of staff on the team.

In relation to the final development plan target, we have been following the structured plans and timetables that are in place, meaning the outdoor areas are used more by the service for both learning and playing. The children are clearly enjoying and benefiting from the time they spend outside as they as they are engaging with the activities, learning the specific outcomes of the task and importantly for their well being having fun and enjoying. Going forward with this particular target, an improvement step would be to utilise the newly developed outdoor zone in the yard to bring more of the children’s learning outdoors on a regular basis.

To summarise, going forward the next steps to further improve the service would be to

  1. Creating a rotating plan for after school to engage all of the children attending.
  2. Implement the staff reflection document with all staff and use the SSTEW Scale Framework with the remaining members of staff on the team.
  3. Review assessment procedures, in light of the Foundation Phase Framework moving towards the New Curriculum for Wales arrangements.
  4. Utilise the newly developed outdoor zone in the yard to bring more of the children’s learning outdoors on a regular basis.

Spring term progress:

Following on from on out Autumn term progress review, the following steps to further improve the service have been looked at and being implemented into the wraparound service.

With regards to the first which was creating a rotating plan for after school to engage all children attending. I have come up with a more structured project plan, these will become projects to do over the term. We have designed it to make it more fun for the children attending and to stimulate them. When we were doing these projects, we asked the children for their input and what they would like to see and do after school. These projects will be sent out on the school app for the parents to see.

Linking in with the next developmental plan target. We are continuing to use the SSTEW scale framework as a tool to help further development for the staff professionally. All current and new staff are aware of the SSTEW framework that we use. The focus of this is to support children’s language for thinking and social and emotional well-being. We use this to bring together that the children's early learning is secured through their personal, social and emotional development. Staff reflection on this has shown all staff are following the framework to the best of their ability and are continuing to thrive.

In Relation with the third developmental plan, we have reviewed and assessed the procedures in light of the foundation phase framework, and will continue to work towards the new curriculum.

To summarise, going forward the next steps to further improve the service would be to:

  1. Continue to use our rotating plans for afterschool, ensuring they are meeting the needs and ages of the children.
  2. Continue using the SSTEW Scale framework with the current and new staff.
  3. Review assessment procedures, in light of the new curriculum for Wales.
  4. Continue to use our newly developed outdoor zone.

Summer term progress:

With regards to the first development plan, our rotating plans for afterschool club are now finalised and will be uploaded to the website for parents to access all of the wonderful activities that we have planned for the children to enhance their development and enjoy.

Linking in with the second development plan, all staff are continuing to use the SSTEW scale framework as a tool to help further their development. this is still to focus and support children's Language for thinking and social and emotional well-being.

In relation to the third development plan we are continuing to work towards the new ciriculum with all correct procedures in place.

Finally, we are accessing our newly developed outdoor zone on a daily basis, allowing the children to explore further.
