During our review activities, members of the Pupil Voice Group and the AoLe Leader undertook workbook Scrutiny and Listening to Learners activities.  In addition, the AOLE Leader carried out AOLE Learning Sampling across the three progression steps considering progression and continuity.

• Phonics assessments across progression step 1 and 2 show that most learners are progressing at age appropriate levels. Assessments have identified those in need of consolidation and within the boost group sessions, they are making steady progress.
• Reading carousel is carried out across nearly all classes with further consistency in approach therefore ensuring reading is taught daily, with targeted intervention for small groups of learners within each class. 
• Our new spelling scheme, Vocabulary Ninja, has been embedded across all classes from Y2-6. From listening to learners, it its evident that it has improved enthusiasm towards spelling lessons across progression step 2 and 3.
• Workbook scrutiny demonstrates that writing across nearly all classes is linked to its genre however further links with the new LPS projects could be considered in order to fully immerse learners within their learning project.
• Written Welsh continues to be of a good quality across the school in most classes. When listening to learners, they could describe drillio and helper y dydd activities that have supported their fluency of age appropriate patterns.

Next steps:

• AOLE leader and PVG to look at Learning projects across the school along with workbook sampling and discuss progress with Governing Body.
• Continue to monitor reading carousel and monitor progress of intervention groups across the school.
• Consider resources to fully support the teaching of language across the school in terms of Welsh, French and BSL.
