LPSW Development Plan Targets 2022-23

Our robust self-evaluation process, displayed above, have generated the following agreed development targets:

  1. Provide further support, training and advice for staff to develop more detailed and structured project plans that considers learner voice and choice, within the afterschool club.

  2. Embed our LPSW staff review system, providing training and support using the SSTEW Scale framework.

  3. Review assessment procedures, in line with Curriculum for Wales 2022.

  4. Enhance outdoor learning experiences, utilising newly developed zones and implementing structured plans/timetables.

Current Review:

With regards to the first target, our rotating plans for our after-school clubs, we have seen some improvements in this area. We now have a planned timetable of different clubs on each night of the week, this allows parents, children and staff members to know what is going on each night of the week.

A way in which we are currently looking into further develop this would be long term planning towards one final outcome. For example, taking arts and crafts club into account the children can work on a different element of a craft project each week and then by the end of each half term the tasks they have been completing each week would have completed one final design that we can photograph them with, and they can then take it home. By implementing this, we are hoping it will engage the children more and make them want to come each week in order to complete their project.

In relation to our second target, all staff are continuing to use the SSTEW scale framework as a tool to help further their development. This is a system that we have been using and has been working well with the staff within the day care setting of Wraparound. We would now like to roll it out continually with the staff members who only work in the breakfast or the after school sessions and the new members of staff that we have gained. We want to implement this throughout the whole service as we believe this is something that will benefit all staff members greatly as it has done those who work within the day care provision.

With the third target, reviewing assessment procedures, in light of the new curriculum for Wales. We are continuing to work towards the new curriculum with all the correct procedures in place.

Finally, for the last target, using the newly developed outdoor zone. We are accessing our newly developed outdoor zone on a regular basis, this allowing the children to explore and further their learning and development in a way that they cannot do indoors.

To summarise, going forward the next steps to further improve the service would be to:

  1. Continue to use our rotating plans for after-school, ensuring they meet the needs and ages of the children.

  2. Continue using the SSTEW Scale framework with the current and new staff.

  3. Review assessment procedures, in light of the new curriculum for Wales.

  4. Continue to use our newly developed outdoor zone.
