Welcome Letter

Welcome to Year 2

Dear Parents / Carers,

A very warm welcome to this new academic year. I am so happy to see all your faces and hope you all had a fantastic Summer break. Below is a short summary of our routines in Year 2 and a little insight into our first topic.

We have had a busy but lovely first few days back to school and I am looking forward to starting our new topic ‘LPS and The Penllegare Trust’ with the children.

Class Topic –

Our first topic is ‘LPS and The Penllegare Trust’. This topic focuses on supporting the Penllegare Trust in developing Penllegare Woods. We will be learning more about the woodland habitat and its inhabitants and how best to conserve it for everyone. We will be delving into the history of the foundation and the people who started the project. I know we will have a great time throughout this topic and look forward to teaching it. We have a fabulous trip booked to visit Penllegare Woods very soon, so keep a look out for your child’s consent form.

PE –

We will be having PE every Tuesday and Wednesday. Please can the children come into school dressed in their PE kits. Please dress your children accordingly for the weather, as PE will take place outdoors.

Healthy Snacks and drinks –

Please can the children bring in a healthy snack and a water bottle every day. Please ensure that they are both clearly labelled with your child’s name.  In order to keep our records up to date, please let the office know of any specific dietary requirements or allergies.

Reading –

Please read with your child throughout the week and then return their books on their allocated reading days along with their reading diaries. Children are encouraged to change their books once they have been read – please do not wait until their next reading day.

Homework –

Homework will be set via our online platform Reading Eggs and Mathseeds every Friday. The homework provides the children with a lesson which leads into a task. We will be using a new platform ‘Vocabulary Ninja’ where the children will be given a set of spelling words that will be taught on the Friday in class and then they will be tested on these words on the following Friday. Please be advised that spelling results will not be shared. Passwords will be given out this week. Should you have any problems accessing the homework, please do let me know.

Year 2 class page –

This is where I will share some of the lovely activities and amazing pieces of work that the children have been doing, so please keep checking regularly. The class page can be accessed via the school website.

This year we are fortunate to have Mrs Evans working with us and we are both very excited to work with the children this year.

Thank you for your support and should you have any queries or problems, do come and speak to me.

Miss Nicholas.  heart
