As part of the LPS Matrix approach, we discussed our prior knowledge, discussed what we would like to learn about, created questions to explore and identified skills we would need to use throughout the topic.
Here are the questions we created:
How long did the Pharaohs rule over ancient Egypt?
What was life like for rich and poor people in Ancient Egypt?
Why was the Nile so important to the Ancient Egyptians?
What Gods did the Ancient Egyptians believe in?
How were the pyramids and statues built?
How long did it take to build the great pyramids?
Why were the Pharaohs mummified?
What did they believe the afterlife was like?
Why were animals so important in Ancient Egypt?
Who is Dr Ken Griffin?
On our cover page we have included our research question with iconic images of Ancient Egypt.
We have used our research skills to identify the meaning for these specialised terms related to Ancient Egypt.
In this task we used our research skills to answer the question - What were the important events that helped shape the history of Ancient Egypt? We then combined our numeracy and ICT skills to create a timeline using Adobe Express.
After completing our timeline, we reflected on the task and explained why this work was successful and suggested what we could do to make it even better.
For this task, we had to research the River Nile and explain why it was so important to early settlers in Ancient Egypt. First we identified the countries within the continent of Africa and then drew a map of Ancient Egypt to identify the settlements around the River Nile. Finally we researched the importance of the river to the people of Egypt and identified the main reasons it is so important to the people of Egypt.
Here is our research into Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon's search and discover of the tomb of Egypts most famous Pharaoh.
For our recount text, we recounted Howard Carter's search and discovery of the tomb of the most famous Egyptian Pharaoh. We researched the events to plan our text and then wrote a first draft. We edited and improved this to produce our final draft in the style of a newspaper using Adobe Express
After completing our recount of the discovery of King Tutenkhamun's Tomb, we reflected on the task and explained why this work was successful and suggested what we could do to make it even better.
We researched the the process of mummification in Ancient Egypt and then presented and explained our research using both written and pictorial methods.
We have used personification, similes, adjectives and verbs when writing our cinquain poems, odes and other poems to celebrate St David's Day.
Here are some more examples of our poetry using personification, similes, adjectives and verbs when writing our cinquain poems, odes and other poems.
After listening to the story of Rhodopis, we used our research skills to answers questions about the life of the Egyptian Cinderella.
Death was very important for Ancient Egyptians and a safe journey to the Afterlife was carefully planned for. We researched why burial masks were so important and also how they were made.
Here are some examples of our research on the Great Pyramids built by the Ancient Egyptians.
We researched and discussed two different views on who actually built the Pyramids. Many believe they were built by slaves. However, new evidence suggested the were built by skilled workers who were looked after very well. What do you think?
We wrote a detailed discussion text to consider this important question. We considered many arguments which had social, environmental and economical benefits to Swansea and the local community. What do you think?
Dr Ken Griffin is the curator at the Swansea Egypt Centre and in this task we have researched to create a fact file on Dr Ken Griffin using Adobe Express.
Hieroglyphics are a pictorial writing system used in Ancient Egypt which used animals, objects and sounds. They usually found inscribed on tombs and written religious texts. We used our reading and creative skills to research and draw these hieroglyphics.
We researched the beliefs of Ancient Egyptians to understand how they made sense of life death and the world around them. We focused on Ma'at - who guided them on how they should live.
