The children listened lovely to a story 'Sun'. Together we talked about what we already know about going out in the sun and what we would like to learn. Mrs Harris-Griffiths wrote down their great answers on a spider diagram. We then watched a video clip about the sun to help us answer some of our questions.
Listen to the children talk about what they know about the sun.
The children wanted to find out about shadow, so we all went outside to walk around the yard to look for some. They found shadows of railings, walls and the gates. We discovered the sun makes shadows of different shapes and we learnt that shadows can move. The children had a fun creating different shapes and drawing around their shadows.
The children have been learning about what types of clothes we wear during the summer to keep us cool and safe. They chose the appropriate clothes for teddy to wear and dressed her for summer. Listen below to the children name the different items of clothing in Welsh. Da iawn blant!
In our topic Summer Time we talked about how to stay safe in the sun. Listen to the children below.
The children enjoyed digging and planting seeds in their garden. Together they talked about how to help their plant grow. They watched a story The Seed grows and then they went outside to enjoy planting their own sunflower seed with their friends. They took care of their plant by watering their seed. The children had fun learning about how a plant grows and sang along to the song.
Mrs Harris-Griffiths asked the children if they new a song about growing. Together we sang a rhyme Mary Mary quite Contrary. We then looked at the pictures and matched each part of the song to the picture.
The children enjoyed learning to estimate the size of caterpillars, then they measured them using cubes. They found out by counting the cubes how long the caterpillar was and chose the same total number to show their friends.
This week in our topic we are learning about the 5 senses, sight, sound, touch, hear and smell. The children learned new vocabulary and describes texture and sound. They played a sorting game with their friends to find out which pictures belongs to the right senses. They enjoyed exploring the sensory basket with various textured materials like, bubble wrap, cotton ball and velvet. They discovered a variety of calming bottles filled with glitter, coloured water and sand. The children made their own choice to play in the sensory bins like sand, rice and pasta and added scoops for digging and scoping. But the best sense of all was the sense of taste. The children ate some delicious ice-cream.
