The children created a Tudor based glossary to define topic vocabularly they would come across throughout the project.
The children used their Welsh skills to create a 'Dyma Fi' text in the style of the main character Eve from our Tudor themed class novel.
The children used their Digital Citizenship skills to research and summarise the key events that happened in Wales and the UK that shaped the Tudor Era.
We then carried out some learning on the Medieval Princes of Wales. To consolidate our learning, we located the rise and fall of Welsh Princes by drawing a map of Medieval Wales and locating their kingdoms.
Following on from the work on the Medieval Princes of Wales, the children carried out learning on Owain Glyndwr. They undertook a comprehension and then created a factual text all about him and his life. Lastly, the children wrote an excellent Discussion text on the question 'Was Owain Glyndwr a hero or a rebel and why is his revolt still debated today?'.
As part of our Eisteddfod competition and Creative writing, we created Limerick poems linked to our learning project.
Then, in answer to our Big Question, we wanted to find out 'What were the cause and effect of changes in monarchy, battles, religious views and politics during this era?'. The children carried our a double-page spread write up on this question.
Following on from this, the children delved deeper into how the Tudor family helped secure power in England. They created a brief family tree, gave a historical explanation and came to the conclusion of why it was important for the King to have an heir!
In addition, the children carried out learning in answer to our next 'Big Question' which was 'How do people express commitment to a religion or world-view in different ways?'. This was an exciting topic to learn about in Year 4 as the children made quick links to how Henry broke away from the Catholic Church and created the Church of England.
Following on from this, something Year 4 were extremely eager to learn about was Henry VIII's prized ship, The Mary Rose. The children firstly looked into why Henry built such a powerful navy and the importance of the Mary Rose. Then, we carried out work in answer to our Numeracy question 'Can you calculate a spend plan that would ensure a safe and nautical journey for one of Henry's ships?'.
We then looked into Tudor Punishments and created a glossary! The children had to use their Digital Citizenship skills to safely research the definitions and summarise the punishment.
We then moved swiftly onto the end of the Tudor era and how life changed when people entered the Stuart Era. We delved deep into how and why the Stuarts came into power and why people turned against the new King.
Lastly, the Year 4 children wrote a Recount Text in the style of a Welsh soldier fighting in the Civil War.
