During our Autumn Term review the AoLe and Humanity Heroes PVG looked at workbooks and spoke with learners and staff from across the school on the teaching of RVE at LPS and Cultural Diversity. This provided us with a good overview of how things are progressing in relation to our action plan.
The following strengths were identified -
Awareness of Cultural Diversity is improving well across the school. Nearly all children were able to articulate diversity issues accurately. For example, Year 2 children were able to explain that it was ok to be different and that we can be friends with people who are different in some way to us. Children in Year 5 spoke of how they had been discussing the cultural diversity in their local community and being aware of their own culture and accepting of others. In Year 6, the children were able to talk about how differences in cultures can cause conflict and linked it to their current Wales at War project.
RVE skills were underdeveloped throughout the Autumn Term projects and will become a particular focus for the Humanity Heroes. The Humanity Heroes have requested to take an assembly once a term, with a focus on one of the 'Big Questions' ensuring that all learners are provided with opportunities to reflect and become ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the World.
