This week in phonics, we have been learning the letter sounds g and o.

Sound focus

  • g – as in goat, gate, get

  • o – as in octopus, on, pot

At home, please can you:

  • Say the sounds g and o clearly 

  • Look for objects around the house that start with g or o and say them out loud.

  • Practise reading and saying these words:

    • go, got, on, dog, log, pot

  • Have a go at writing the letters g and o, remembering correct letter formation

More activities

  • Play I Spy using the sounds g and o.

  • Draw a picture of something that starts with g or o and label it.

  • Read a short book and spot words with g and o.
