Play, Learn and Grow Together

Topic

In Wraparound there are lots of exciting activities for the children to explore and play in class with their friends. Mrs Harris-Griffiths needed some help to know what the children would like to get busy with in class. To help, a voting station was set up for the children to make their own choice of their favourite activity in class, by placing a block in their chosen basket. The children counted the votes to find out which was the most popular activity.

In our topic 'People All Around Us' we have been learning all about recycling and how important it is to  recycle at school, home and in the community. The children used their litter pikers to collect the rubbish and sort their items into plastic and paper, they also recycled their rubbish when they had finished eating their snack. During the class activities the children used the tweezers to collect and sort the different colour rubbish into the small recycling bins.

The children share with their friends who help us in our community.

The children matched the pictures to complete the puzzle of a person who helps us in the community. They then talked about what they would like to be when they grow up.

Wraparound were very excited to listen to a message on the walkie talkie. They had a special visit from Morriston fire station. Captain Firefighter Stuart gave us some information about the role of a fire fighter. The children listened and answered some of the questions from Firefighter Stuart. What do we need to do if there was a fire? What keeps us fit and healthy? Why do we need to stay healthy? What happens if our clothes catch fire? What special clothes do we wear when putting out a fire? The children listened closely to a message on the walkie talkie from the fire station. Mrs Harris-Griffiths and some children dressed up in full uniform. The helmet is hard and brightly coloured , so the firefighters heads are well protected. Gloves are worn to protect from cuts, grazes and burns. The jacket and trousers are to help the firefighter move quickly and safely, but most important to keep them safe from burns. The children had fun practicing the fire technique of 'Stop, Drop, Roll'. The children joined in with a safety sorting game and talked about if the object were safe or not safe. Some children were inspired to become firefighters when they grow up.

Sorting pictures into safe and not safe

The children have been learning how to keep their teeth healthy. They played a game and sorted healthy and unhealthy food. They then shared with the class why it is important to visit the dentist.

What happens at the dentist?

Why do we need to visit the dentist?

We used our magnifying glass to look closely at the teeth x-ray on the light box. We then had fun with our skeleton floor puzzle we put together with our friends. We measure ourselves next to it, to see how long or big the bones are. To find out about our body we listened to a story called Me and my Amazing Body.

Where do theses bones go?

Doctors and nurses busy in the medicine lab.

In Wraparound we have been learning about road safety. We watched a video clip on how to stay safe crossing the road in the day and night. We helped our friends cross the road safely by following the green cross code. We stopped, looked and listened for any vehicles. We held hands to cross the road on the zebra crossing.

How to keep safe crossing the road?

A lollipop person helped us cross the road.
