Summer Term Review

During our Summer Term Review Fortnight, the AoLE Leader and members of the Humanity Heroes PVG undertook book looks and listening to learners activities. We spoke with children from across both phases about the LPS RVE Big Questions.

Main Objective: To develop standards of RVE at LPS.

RVE has seen significant development, particularly in the area of the LPS Big Questions. This year the Big Questions have been taught more widely throughout the school, giving children time for thoughtful reflections and discussions. The children have effectively utilised resources linked to their Big Questions, demonstrating an ability to engage critically with complex concepts. It was interesting listening to learners in Year 4 who spoke of the work they had carried out on their Big Question. The children were able to explain that they had been learning about how different religions expressed their commitment to their own faiths in different ways and could relate it to things they celebrated and believed in their own lives.

The delivery of Geography and History throughout the curriculum this year has been executed very well, with both subjects being taught in a cross-curricular manner that enhances the children's overall learning experiences. This integrated approach has not only enriched the content but has also allowed pupils to make connections between various themes and concepts. Most children are achieving expected levels or above in these areas, showing a good understanding and engagement with the teaching and learning. Children in Year 2 spoke of how they had enjoyed learning about Wales and Mumbles in their Bay Magazine topic. The children expressed their interest and enjoyment about how they had been using maps and globes and drawing their own maps of Mumbles highlighting key points of interest for tourists.

Overall, the continued cross-curricular teaching and learning approach and the improved integration of RVE Big Questions have contributed to the strong attainment levels observed.

Our next steps:

  • Humanity Heroes to plan and deliver RVE ‘Big Question’ assemblies.
  • Further develop links with local parish and the wider community.
  • To continue our energy saving mission within LPS (SIGMA)
