During our Summer Term Review Fortnight the AoLE Leader and Humanity Heroes PVG monitored coverage of skills and looked at learners progress from across each progression step.
The following strengths were identified -
From listening to learners and monitoring activities in children’s workbooks, we found that the RVE Big Questions were being covered in most classes, but still not all. Children who we spoke to who had covered their Big Questions were able to explain what they had learnt and felt that the learning had started to help them make sense of the diverse world that they live in. In Year 2 the children had recently covered the Big Question “What does it mean to live a good life?” The children talked about what they thought the word ‘good’ meant and came up with suggestions such as; being kind to others and having lots of friends and family around you would help you to live a good life. The children decided to create an iMovie to share with others on this topic.
The PVG members cross referenced workbooks with the skills on the History Humanities progression model. They found that the children were being given tasks at the correct level and the standard of the children’s work that they saw was good. It was interesting to see the chronology of events and time periods skill throughout the school, as there was clear progression seen throughout the progression steps. In Year 1 the children looked at how Llangyfelach had changed over time and made comparisons. In Year 3 the children researched the history of Swansea Market and applied their chronological skills to create their timeline. In Year 5 the children constructed a timeline on Space exploration which demonstrated how they applied chronological awareness to accurately use dates and terms to describe the historical events.
The Humanity Heroes had the opportunity to have a look at teacher assessments on the INSIGHT assessment tracker. After looking at several year groups from across the school, the children decided that most children were seen to be working within their targeted progression step for geography and history.
