Play, Learn, Hatch & Grow

Dinomania have left the building after their fun visit to LPS. However, they have left something behind! Ranger Chris radioed in to tell us it was our job to look after the discovery. How will we look after it? What do we think is inside? We worked hard to think all about what we already know about our topic. We looked at the PLJ and linked some of the strands to our topic. We then worked together and came up with 4 questions we would like to find out:

1. What is a volcano?

2. When you become an adult, do you stop growing?

3. What do dinosaurs eat? Freddie

4. Do all dinosaurs have horns? Georgie

We had a fantastic visit from Ranger Chris, Ranger Andy and Dinomania this week. They brought lot's of dinosaurs for us to meet and one even hatched from an egg in front of us! They taught us all about these amazing creatures and we got to ask them all of our interesting questions. Once they left, we had a call through the airwaves from Ranger Chris, he left something behind! We found 5 dinosaurs eggs in the hall and it is our job to look after them, nurture them and help them grow. We are looking forward to the challenge. What a great day of learning and fun we had!

How might we learn more about our discovery?

It is our job to research and learn more about our discovery. We worked together to research the eggs and what could be inside them.

Uh oh! Mrs Gaffney-Jones has lost all her information about dinosaurs. It is your job to help her gather information for our journey. We worked together to research different dinosaurs using Andy's Prehistoric Adventures and the National History Museum website. We also thought about what we had learnt from our visit from DinoMania. We worked hard to create a fact file on 4 different dinosaurs. Watch our video to find out what we learnt!

We then discussed as a class what information is and looked at the information skeleton. We worked in our fish and chip partners and thought about what information we had learnt from our research. We put all our ideas on our writers’ wall! Watch our video to see us use the skeleton to share our information.

During Welly Wednesday we decided it would be a good idea to build a home for our dinosaur eggs to keep them safe before they hatch. It was fun working as a team to think about what we needed to use.

The dinosaurs from Dinomania trampled all over our dinosaur models! We decided we needed to rebuild the models for our display. We predicted what dinosaur might be in the eggs before they hatch and made a model out of play-dough. Watch our video to see our predictions and what dinosaur model we made for our display.

Mrs Gaffney-Jones would like to know more about us. We brought in baby photos from home and used these to think about how we have changed over time. We thought about what we can do now that we couldn't do when we were a baby. We also played a game of guess who using all our baby photos, it was lot's of fun!

How have you changed since you were a baby?

Let’s go on an archaeologist’s dig! How many fossils can you find to display? We worked very hard to dig deep to find the fossils and create our own using chalk.

We came back from lunch to find lots of footprints in the yard! We measured them to try and find out which dinosaurs they belonged to!

Ranger Chris radioed in to check on our eggs! Guess what? They have started to hatch! We are so excited! We can’t wait to meet our new discoveries!

Our eggs have hatched! We have baby dinosaurs! We are so happy! Now it’s time to look after our new discoveries!

We need to write a set of instructions about how to care for our baby dinosaurs! Firstly we need to plan our instruction texts using the planning skeleton!
