  • Amazing Astronauts

NASA are looking for the next Welsh astronaut! Are you up for the task? Let’s embark on a quest to find out more about what the job entails. Can you learn more from our trip to the Planetarium at Techniquest? What can we learn from astronauts that have gone before us? It will take discipline and training to become an astronaut, can you complete the space course? Can we discover more about the Solar System? Maybe we could invent the next rocket ship that will take us to space…what would we need? Let’s prepare for lift off and investigate how rockets work. Let’s get started on our mission!

Our Year One children have used the Question Matrix to help them come up with some interesting questions about our Spring Term topic.

    Why do stars exist?

    How do they launch rockets?

    Is it dark in space?

How do astronauts get to space?

    Why are aliens green?

Why do astronauts need to be fit and healthy?

    What planets are in space?

    Can children go to space?

Year 1 have been busy learning directional language while directing rockets along their tracks. Using JIT, the children created their own rocket directions and explored how to guide rockets forwards, backwards, left and right.

Year 1 have been learning how to stay fit and healthy to become astronauts. They recorded their ideas on iPads, sharing how exercise, healthy food, and rest keep our bodies strong.

Watch our future astronauts in action!
