  • LPS & Brynteg Farm

Brynteg Farm is located in the picturesque area of Carmarthenshire. The scenery is awesome but most importantly, it is a sanctuary of peace and wellbeing for animals and all who visit. LPS and Brynteg Farm are teaming up to develop a venue that will educate our community on how to care for animals and others. The aim will be to provide visitors with a better understanding of animals, how to love and care for them whilst also offering a safe, tranquil and fun place for everyone to enjoy. A place where your worries disappear, and you forget the normal hustle and bustle of daily life, whilst enjoying the present moment with the animals of Brynteg Farm.

Our Year One children have used the Question Matrix to help them come up with some interesting questions about our Summer Term topic.

    What do farm animals eat?

How do you milk a cow?

Why do roosters make noise in the morning?

Who helps farm animals when they are poorly?

What do animals need to be happy?

What is the job of a farmer?

    Topic Cover Pages

We started our new topic by discussing everything we already knew and thinking carefully about what we wanted to find out. Using the Question Matrix, the children created thoughtful questions to guide their learning. They then designed colourful cover pages to showcase their ideas, questions and prior knowledge.

    Block Graphs

Year 1 have been learning how to collect and present data using JIT. The children investigated favourite farm animals in the class and used the information to create block graphs. They enjoyed gathering the data, counting the results and presenting their findings clearly using iPads.

    Money

Year 1 have been busy learning all about money in Maths. We have been comparing amounts and finding the difference between them using our counting and subtraction skills. The children have enjoyed solving practical money problems and becoming more confident in recognising coins and calculating amounts. These skills are helping to prepare us for our upcoming enterprise project, where we will use our knowledge of money in real-life situations. We are excited to put our learning into practice and develop our understanding of buying, selling and handling money.

    Classifying Animals

Year 1 have been learning about different types of animals and exploring their characteristics. They worked hard to classify animals into groups such as mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians, using their knowledge to explain why each animal belongs in a particular category. Well done, Year 1!

    Brynteg Farm Trip

Year 1 had a wonderful day at Brynteg Farm, where they met lots of friendly animals, including pigs, guinea pigs, horses, alpacas and sheep. The children loved feeding the alpacas and grooming the horses, making it a fun and memorable hands-on learning experience for everyone!
