LPS Matrix: LPS Spring Festival
Mr Burnell has asked us to organise the biggest, brightest, and most beautiful spring festival that celebrates all the cultures within our wonderful community. We are up for the challenge and cannot wait to plan an amazing festival! We worked hard to think all about what we already know about our topic. We looked at the PLJ and linked some of the strands to our topic. We decided that teamwork was very important as we needed to work together to plan our festival. We then worked together and came up with 4 questions we would like to find out:
1. What celebrations happen in Church?
2. Why do we have chocolate eggs at Easter?
3. Why do we celebrate Valentines day?
4. Who is Guy Fawkes?
Researching different celebrations and festivals.
Let’s learn more about different cultures before we plan our big event. We worked hard to research Chinese New Year, Holi and Birthdays around the world. We learnt all about the different festivals and what each festival symbolises. We discussed the importance of food and stories in each festival and look forward to retelling the Chinese New Year story.
Our visit to Llangyfelach Church
We had a great time at Llangyfelach Church this week. Rev Anthony told us all about the church and the festivals they celebrate in church. He told us what happens in christenings and weddings. He showed us his special robes and some of us tried them on! We learnt what each of the different colour robes represent. We talked about the Easter story and Anthony gave us some books to take home. Anthony answered all of our questions and has invited us back next term for our very own wedding. We cannot wait!
We enjoyed learning about St. Dwynwen's Day this week. We loved hearing Mrs Gaffney- Jones tell us the story of St Dwynwen, Wales' patron saint of love. We talked about the role stories play in spring festivals and the importance of these stories. Watch us retell the story and make St Dwynwen's Day cards for those we love.
We loved using the VRs to look at different festivals around the world. We saw lot's of interesting things. We then told our partner what we saw and drew a picture.
For the Eisteddfod Creative Writing Competition we worked as a class to create an acrostic poem all about Wales. We loved discussing what it means to be Welsh.
We have enjoyed ordering the months of the year and plotting festivals on the calendar. We have learnt the months of the year macarena to help us remember the order of the months.
We really enjoyed trying Chinese food as part of our Chinese New Year celebrations. We talked about the importance of food in festivals. We loved trying egg fried rice, noodles, curry sauce and poppadoms.
We used JIT to create a graph as a class to show our favourite animals of the Chinese Zodiac
We enjoyed trying Welsh cakes as part of our St Davids Day celebrations. We researched the history of Welsh cakes and why they are an important part of Welsh culture.
We loved drawing daffodils this week and watching them grow. We used magnifying glasses to have a closer look!
We enjoyed learning about how St David’s Day is celebrated around Wales and how it give us the sense of ‘Cynefin’. We talked about what it means to be Welsh and what we enjoyed about celebrating St David's Day at LPS.
Our Mock Wedding at Llangyfelach Church
We had a fantastic time at Llangyfelach Church today. We had our very our wedding. Anthony the Vicar choose a Bride, Groom, Father of the Bride and Best Man. We loved watching Emma and Finley get married. Corey was a great Father of the Bride and Edward was an excited Best Man! Watch our video to see us celebrate the marriage.
Our Spring Festival preparation
We’ve been working hard making colourful T Shirts for our spring festival after learning all about Holi. We can’t wait to wear them during our spring festival.
