Sweynsey

Sweyns-ey

We are going to team up with Swansea Museum to explore some of the evidence of Viking raiders and traders in Swansea. We will investigate what happened before the Vikings arrived and who King Arthur was. Together with Swansea Museum we will make a historical breakthrough and tell the world how Viking raiders shaped our nation and our city... Sweyns-ey (Sweyn's island)

We used the LPS Question Matrix to help us decide what we wanted to learn!

  • Where did the Vikings live?
  • What might the Vikings have eaten?
  • How could we communicate in Norse?
  • How did the Vikings battle?
  • What weapons did the Vikings use in battle?
  • What was the toilet situation for the Vikings?
  • How did the Vikings make entertainment?
  • What might the Vikings have worn?

We started our new topic by researching important dates that occurred in our country after the Romans left! We created Anglo-Saxon and Viking timelines, focusing on the raids that took place!

We learnt about King Arthur’s involvement in the development of our wonderful country! We loved reading about Arthur pulling the sword out of the stone too!

We went shopping in a Viking market with a set budget! We couldn’t spend over our budget or we would have to walk the plank of the longship!

We wrote amazing recounts of our fantastic trip to Gower Heritage Centre!

We developed our creative writing skills by writing stories about King Sweyn and the Dragon of Worm’s Head! ✏️
