Welcome to our Happy Healthy Helpers adventure!
Leroy the Lion needs our help. He wants to make sure that everyone at LPS is happy, healthy, safe, included and supported.
Every time we complete a mission, we will learn something new, develop a new skill and become an even better helper!
Are you ready to join Leroy's team?
Year 1 were excited to welcome our school mascot, Leroy the Lion, who arrived with a basket full of interesting things! Leroy needs our help to learn how to be a Happy, Healthy Helper.
Together, we explored the mystery items and began thinking about how we can make healthy, happy choices and help ourselves and others.
We talked about what we already know and, using the LPS Question Matrix, came up with some fantastic questions to guide our learning:
We have been busy learning all about our Class Dojos and what it means to be a good citizen at LPS! We have discussed how our choices and actions can make a difference and explored ways we can make our classroom and school a welcoming place for everyone.
Through lots of thoughtful discussions, we have talked about how we can help others feel welcome, include everyone and be kind to one another.
PE
In PE, Year 1 have had lots of fun exploring our outdoor gym! The children enjoyed trying out the different equipment, developing their strength, balance and coordination while keeping active. 🌟
Year 1 have been exploring how to keep their bodies fit and healthy! As part of our science learning, we investigated how our fitness can improve over time. The children had some fantastic discussions about carrying out a fair test, noticing how their bodies felt during exercise and deciding how best to record their results.
We have started learning about the importance of a balanced diet and how the food we eat helps to keep our bodies healthy. The children have enjoyed getting creative by independently designing their own balanced meals in our creative area, using their cutting and sticking skills to bring their ideas to life.
The children have been exploring different shapes and patterns in PE to create their own gymnastics sequences. Working collaboratively in groups, they came up with some fantastic patterns, linking movements and balances together.
Year 1 have had a fantastic day learning about our community heroes! We learnt about healthy eating from the school nurse and enjoyed a fun-filled visit from Morriston Fire Service. We explored the fire engine and even had a go spraying the fire hose!
