Self & Peer Scrutiny

  • During ADDs sessions planned throughout the year all teaching staff engage in Self & Peer Workbook Scrutiny.

  • They use the same criteria in this activity, the LPS WBS Matrix found in the LPS Teaching & Learning Booklet.

  • The format is very similar to the SLT Half Termly Workbook Scrutiny; however, an important difference is that teaching staff undertake this system themselves and in collaboration with colleagues.

  • This approach yields similar gains as SLT Workbook Scrutiny with the addition of key benefits, such as:

    • Teaching staff undertake forensic style scrutiny of their own work in partnership with a colleague every term.

    • Overtime, teaching staff gain improved understanding of the matrix criteria providing greater clarity over SLT feedback from Workbook Scrutiny sessions.

    • Additionally, with greater understanding of the matrix criteria, comes greater ability to apply the requirements that sustain highly effective practice.

    • More importantly, this approach offers staff the capacity to develop collegiality and professionalism while discussing each other’s successes and areas for improvement.

    • This approach requires training for all staff in order to maximise the benefits that it can offer whole school improvement.
