Play, Learn and Grow Together

Spring Term

During Review Week the AoLe Leader and the Humanity Heroes PVG monitored standards and progress across the school through book looks and listening to learner activities.

We identified the following strengths: -

The new LPS Curriculum projects have now been fully implemented and are now embedded across all year groups at LPS. From listening to learners it does appear that most children are enjoying the content of their projects and are interested in learning how Wales fits in to the wider World. The children spoke enthusiastically about what they had learnt about Wales and WW11 in Year 6, the history of Swansea Market in Year 3 and how Welsh politician Aneurin Bevan changed health care for everyone in the UK in Year 4. Learners spoke engagingly about the class trips that they had been on and agreed that what they found out and got to experience during the trip had made a positive impact on their learning back in class. Standards continue to be high across the school, most children are aware of the high expectations and the work most children produce reflects this.

All children are accessing activities that are set to their level of learning and most children are being challenged. From observing children’s work across all year groups it is possible to see a steady incline in progress of most learners across the phases. From Looking at countries across the World in Year 5 to identifying rainforests on a World map in Year 3 to then Looking at countries in the UK in Year 2.

Progression throughout the school could be seen in History activities whereby children in Year 4 had completed a detailed timeline of medicine through the ages to Year 2 creating a picture timeline of the Prehistoric events.

This term the Humanity Heroes and the AoLe have implemented the Energy Sparks initiative across the school by delivering an assembly to introduce Energy Sparks and raise awareness of the effects of Climate change. The assembly was positive experience and many children were able to share ways on how they could help reduce Climate Change and reduce our energy usage. All year groups have carried out their first activity to further raise awareness and build knowledge of the importance of energy saving.

our next steps are:-

  • The AoLe and the Humanity Heroes PVG will be driving the Energy Sparks initiative across the school in the hope to tackle Climate Change and become more energy efficient.

  • To implement and use the new LPS Humanities Progression models to monitor progress and standards across the school.

  • The AoLe and Humanities Heroes PVG will continue to work on our Eco Schools campaign and undertake termly litter picks in our local area.
