Cost of Living Assistance

As you will be aware, from September 2023 all pupils from Reception to Year 3 will be entitled to Universal Free School Meals, and all primary school children in Wales will get free school meals by 2024. This commitment is in response to the rising cost-of-living pressures on families and our shared ambitions of tackling child poverty and ensuring no child goes hungry in school. The Welsh Government is committed to implementing the scheme as quickly as possible.

However, families on low income may be eligible for other benefits such as school uniform, money off school trips and even help towards their water bills. In order to assess eligibility for this, an application for free school meals should be made.

This application is also important to your child’s school, as essential funding is awarded for each eligible child, allowing the school to invest in vital physical and human resources for pupils.
