Week 29/6/2020

WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TP THIS WEEK?

This week the weather changed! So we put on our wellies and went walking through a shallow river - although Archie went too deep and the water flowed into his wellies! He had a very soggy walk home! And we enjoyed flying a kite on a very windy day!

MATHS

I hope you enjoyed the butterfly symmetry work. This week I have set a task on MyMaths for you.

GIGLETS

This week your task has been set on Giglets.  Use Oxford Owl, for your second text. Select a book from there at your correct level. If you have not tried it, go online, join for free and you can select all the reading books that we have in school and more!

SPELLINGS

Spellings can be found in the usual place. Don't forget PhonicsPlay which has great activities to support word building too. There is free! Log in details are on the web page.

TOPIC

This week our focus is identifying the characteristics of minbeasts.

Firstly, watch https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p011n1mp and think about what each of the mini beasts  have to keep them safe and stop other animals from eating them!

Next I would like you to create your very own large-scale minibeast! You can do this by using junk / recycled materials.

When you create your minibeast think about:

  1. Its name
  2. How its body will look
  3. Will it have legs / wings?
  4. What your insects special feature will be to keep it safe?
  5. How does the special feature help your insect?

Once you have created your minibeast I would like us to focus on persuasion. Create your own poster to persuade me that it is the best minibeast!

You will need to:

  1. Write persuasive sentences using adjectives to describe your minibeast
  2. Give reasons why it is the best using the word ‘because’
  3. Present your work using pictures and colour
  4. Use full stops, question marks or exclamation marks

e.g. This is my Magnafly. It is an amazing, colourful minibeast and can fly at the speed of light because it has great, strong wings!

Can you spot adjectives in my sentence? Have I used the word because? What punctuation have I used to make my sentence more powerful for the reader?

Now it’s your turn! I can’t wait to see your creations this week!

Games and additional resources to help you.
