Play, Learn and Grow Together

Week: 06/07/2020

Home Learning Tasks for the week of: 06/07/2020

Welcome to the Home Learning Area for Year 5. Below is a list of activities for your children to complete throughout the week, at their own leisure.

The Home Learning Area will be updated for the start of every Monday and feedback will be provided on the tasks completed by the children (remember to check pupil Hwbmail).

Feel free to send any pictures or videos of the work and I will display them below.

Thank you very much for your co-operation during this time.

Mr Higgins.

Class Connectivity

To keep our class connected and to see what we all have been doing during these unprecedented times, I would like you to send me either a picture or small video of something you have been up to. This could include a walk, exercise routines, painting, etc - anything you have been up to and want to share. I will then put all of these moments into a video montage to share with you at the end of each week.

In the top left-hand corner select 'Curriculum for Wales'. Then, from the 'Library', choose 'Using Data Skills'. Then select 'Present and analyse data'. I would like you to try, 'Reading Pie Charts'. Select the 'Lesson' to help you understand before completing the 'Online Homework' task.

Important: Don't forget to select the 'Lesson' before attempting the 'Online Homework' task.

If you don't get things correct first time, keep trying the tasks until you have a better understanding or ask for help.

Don't forget there is also a selection of Maths websites on the Year 5 class page - click here to view.

Giglets: https://giglets.com/

There are two books for you to read. Once you have read them carefully, complete the tasks assigned.

Book 1: Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves - reading test questions

Book 2: The Canary (preparation for next week)

End of Year Reports

Pupil review Sheet

As there are some outstanding reviews to be completed, I have put this task up again - make sure to complete on the word document provided and send to me.

At this time of year we would be looking back at our learning across all topics and experiences throughout the year in order to reflect on your most enjoyable moments. This will be your task for this week.

  • Look at the PowerPoint below to remind yourself of your learning this year. Click on the hyperlinks throughout the PowerPoint to visit the topic pages and see example of the work.
  • Download the writing template below and use the plan in the PowerPoint to write the first draft of your review.
  • This task will be included in your end of year report, so just as in school, do not accept your first attempt. Share your work with me and I will provide feedback via email to help you improve your texts and make sure you have included everything you need.
  • For Keira, just write about the experiences and topics you have done during your time at LPS - you can mention in your introduction when you came to the school.

Super Evaluation

Recount

For this task, you will need to think about your year at LPS and the activities, topics or other important events that have happened during the year.

Think about:

  • Your favourite topics, learning activities or lessons
  • Your least favourite topics, learning activities or lessons
  • Your favourite class trips, visits or concerts
  • Your least favourite class trips, visits or concerts
  • LPS Home Learning activities
  • Your own personal 'Lockdown' activities and experiences

You will need to choose some of these, explain what they are, what you did and how you feel about them.

  • Why did you enjoy/not enjoy them?
  • What have you learnt from school activities?
  • What have you learnt from doing tasks at home? (cooking, cleaning, etc)

Here is the plan for your Super Evaluation:

Success Criteria

  • Use sub-headings
  • State what you have learnt
  • Give reasons to support your opinions

Introduction

  • Say what you are writing about
  • When did they take place?
  • Who was involved?

Event/Activity 1

  • Describe the event/activity in detail
  • What was useful?
  • What skills from other areas have you used?
  • Likes and dislikes – why?
  • Give your opinion of the topic and activities
  • What have you learnt?

Repeat for Event/Activity 2, Event/Activity 3, and so on. It is up to you how many events or activities you want to write about.

You can choose how to present your work - Word document, PowerPoint presentation, PlayList, and you can include photos or links if you wish.

Share your work with me and I will provide feedback via email to help you improve your texts and make sure you have included everything you need.
